Dental Related Fear (DRF) and Anesthesia
DRFSD and Anesthesia Preoperative Preparation Programs
Service Description
Pharmacologic interventions with sedation or general anesthesia (GA) to reduce Dental Related Fear Spectrum Disorder (DRFSD) may be the solution for optimal dental outcomes in this vulnerable population. Unfortunately, many of the patients that suffer from DRFSD struggle with the fear of needles/injections. So the preoperative intramuscular sedative injection that may allow for intraoperative monitor placement, IV initiation, and intubation, may trigger the cascade of fear and anxiety cycle. In children, preoperative anxiety is reported to result in postoperative negative psychological effects, including emergence delirium, nightmares, separation anxiety, eating problems, and increased fear of doctors. In adults, it has been suggested to correlate with increased postoperative pain, increased postoperative analgesic requirements, and prolonged recovery and hospital stay. BakerDMD Institute is dedicated to educate you regarding preoperative preparation programs that may reduce preop, intraop and post morbidities in patients with DRF.
