The Fear of the Flaw_____

We are obsessed with checking our teeth in accidental reflections (subway windows, store glass fronts, public bathrooms, etc.) because these moments provide a guilt-free, unobserved opportunity to manage our deepest, most primal fear: being silently judged by the social world for an easily fixable flaw that everyone else can see, but we can't. CH. It was a strange, sultry summer----
